CERT COVID-19 Protocol for the 2020/21 School Year

Since CERT primarily serves the students who attend Emmett High School, we will be doing our best to follow the protocol laid out by the Emmett school district and EHS.  With that in mind CERT has created some addition protocol and clarifications that addresses the specific needs of our ministry.  Here are the following additions and clarifications for each category.*
Category 1

In this category, CERT will follow the high school protocol exactly.

Category 2.

Student Limit

Because of the size of our building we will be limiting the number of students allowed inside.  We will be restricting the number of students allowed in the building to 20 at a time.  If a class sizes grow beyond this limit, CERT will look into adding more periods to spread out the students.

Limited Building access

Students will only be allowed in the building during breakfast, lunch, and class.   CERT will not be open to students during break.  EHS students who are enrolled in the CERT class for the 20/21 school year will be given priority during breakfast and lunch.

Students will be asked to self-screen before entering building.

Students, if you need to talk to the CERT teacher, he is still available for you and is flexible.  Please don’t allow our limited access policy to keep you from talking to the CERT teacher when you have a need.

Lunch Time

In order to assist EHS with social distancing CERT will provide its ground for the students to eat their lunch when weather permits.  We ask students to practice social distancing while eating their lunch on CERT grounds.  Chairs will be placed 6 feet apart on our grounds during lunch to facilitate those students who wouldn’t have access to the inside of our building

Limited Store Access and Items

The store will continue to operate but with new restrictions.

        • Students will no longer have open access to the store. Students will have to order their food at CERT’s outside kitchen door.
        • The CERT store will only be open during breakfast and lunch
        • CERT will only sell canned/bottled drinks, packaged snacks, and cup-of-soup (no more donuts for now)
        • CERT’s refrigerator will no longer be available for student use.
        • In this category the story will start off being open only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday,
Category 3 – the following highlighted sections are key differences

Category 4

All visits (by students or adults) must be done by appointment.

CERT will be using Zoom calls every day for class and will be using Google classroom for announcements, assignments, and handouts.

If a zoom session is missed without out an excuse, it will count as an absence.

The following will be in place during categories 2,3, and 4.

Mask

CERT Staff and Volunteers will be wearing masks when students are present.   When social distancing permits mask’s will be optional for Staff/Volunteers.

Directors thoughts: I don’t necessarily like wearing a mask but because CERT ministers to a wide verity of students with many different political and philosophical backgrounds, I figure wearing a mask is the lowest common denominator.  I also feel, as the director, that this position is a good way for me to live out 1 Corinthians 9:19 “Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.”

Though we will encourage students to be safe, we will not force students to wear masks.

Store safety

Workers will be required to wear mask and gloves

Hand sanitizer will be mounted by door where they will purchase their food

No open access to store

Sneeze guard will be put in place

Stakes will be put out in lawn to remind students to line up 6 feet apart.

Signs will be posted reminding student to keep 6 feet and maintain proper hygiene

Sanitization

New sanitizing equipment has been purchased and will be in place for the first day of School

We will follow the same sanitizing routine as EHS.

Protocol for sick students

If a student’s presents with COVID- 19 symptoms, as posted on our self-screening poster, they will be sent home if they are an enrolled student.  They are not an enrolled student they will be sent back to EHS immediately.  If an enrolled student is confirmed to have COVID-19, we will call the parents of all the enrolled students to inform them.  Names of sick students will be kept confidential.

Symptomatic Student will be asked to quarantine for 14 or come back with doctors note assuring CERT that they do not have the COVID-19.

*This is a living document and is subject to change as we progress in the school year and strive to meet the ever changing needs of our students during this pandemic.
